Askam Surgery update 08/02/2021

Dr Wilson is very pleased to inform his patients that the Askam Surgery, 2 Parklands Drive, Askam-in-Furness, LA16 7JP will become operational from Monday 15 February 2021.

The practice team does not anticipate any major issues with the commencement of medical and dispensary services from the Askam surgery. If there are any significant teething problems however, there will be appropriate notices etc displayed outside our buildings, as well as text messages/websites updates etc to keep everyone informed/updated about any unexpected delays/issues.

Duddon Valley Medical Practice (DVMP) truly appreciates how our patients have become used to the different ways of working during the Covid 19 crisis. Unfortunately, patients are still, currently unable to walk in to any of our surgery buildings. Patients must continue to be accompanied by a doctor or nurse for all pre-booked, “face to face” appointments, whilst our reception/waiting area continue to be closed to the public.

From Monday 15 February 2021 the dispensary at Askam surgery will become operational and patients will now be able to request and collect their medication in the current ways used at the Kirkby and Broughton surgeries now.

If you have any queries in relation to medication requests etc from the Askam surgery please telephone our current phone numbers for assistance – 01229/889247/716337.

As soon as confirmation has been given by our telephone provider DVMP will advertise the new phone number for the Askam surgery that can also be used after 15 February 2021. Please use our current phone numbers however when you need to contact DVMP until that time.

The practice website/information leaflets etc will be updated as and where necessary as soon as any changes take place. To support you during this time the updated practice leaflets will be made available as soon as possible after the Askam surgery becomes operational.

All doctor appointments will continue to be undertaken initially by telephone, as currently takes place.

All necessary “face to face” appointments and home visits will continue to be arranged and carried out as appropriate by our doctors and nurses.

Doctor and nurse appointments will become available at Askam as soon as possible after the 15 February 2021. Please note that access to these clinics will become available once the new computer and telephone systems have been tried and tested during the week commencing 8 February 2021.

There are so many people to thank who have been integral in achieving the necessary works to open Askam surgery on 15 February 2021 and, for information it will be exactly six weeks only on that day since the refurbishment/updates commenced on 4 January 2021.

There is now a back door to the Askam surgery building so patients will be able to collect their medication at the rear of the surgery, from the car parking area as is currently the system used at Kirkby and Broughton surgeries.

Everyone who has been involved in achieving the refurbishment of Askam surgery are truly amazing. They have all been dedicated to getting the work finished in time for the 15th, despite many problems that have occurred on the way (as well as the recent snow and ice!).

DVMP hopes  to thank everyone who has supported the opening of the surgery “officially” and properly in the very near future.

The Save our Surgery group are especially in no doubt about how much we have appreciated their continuing support throughout these many months of waiting for things to happen!

It is a very exciting time for DVMP and the team genuinely cannot wait to start working in the “new” Askam surgery.

Everyone at DVMP hopes that all our Askam and Ireleth patients (who have been very patient!) will now enjoy being able to access medical and dispensary services nearer to where they live from the 15th!
